A couple of weeks back, I read this book called Flow, by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. It was a good read and helped words to the feeling I‌ slip into when performing certain activities such as writing or programming. In this article, I‌ would like to discuss flow in more detail and what lessons I‌ gleaned off the book as well as my own take on the phenomena. Defining Flow Put simply, Flow is a mental state where one loses their sense of time fully involved in some activity. This is similar to the Taoist principle of Wu Wei. Meaning “effortless action”....

It is that Birdo. As the new decade 2020 has come upon us, I‌ thought it would be nice to reflect upon my decade of computer programming. It all started in 2010… The Start When I‌ was a child, I‌ really enjoyed playing video games and legos. One of my favorite video games at the time was Legend of Zelda. It was the coolest game with its puzzles, lore, and characters. I wanted to build a video game just like it. That Christmas, my father gifted me my first laptop. Several months later, he gifted me with my first programming...

Hello again. A new year has come upon us. Not only a new year but a new decade. I’ll have a separate article regarding the decade later on this week. The beginning of the New Year serves as an arbitrary milestone for which one can reflect upon the past and have a look towards the future. As such, let us begin by looking at events that have occurred last year for Mechasparrow Key Events that happened last year (2019) 2019 marked the beginning and end of many things. In particular, it marked the end of High School and the beginning...

Hello everyone. It’s mechasparrow again. While I‌ was redeveloping my website, I‌ had to carefully pick what projects I‌ wanted to showcase. One of which was a Rubik’s Cube Scrambler application that I‌ haven’t worked on since 2016. I decided to showcase that one as I‌ thought it was simple and completed its purpose well. However. With my new knowledge and skill I‌’ve gained since then, I‌ wanted to give it another go. This time with new and improved functionality! You can find a demo of the project over at https://dah-rubiks.surge.sh/ The Focus There are two main things that I‌...

Hello. It’s that metal birdo, Mechasparrow. Though you may not know it, I‌’m actually in my first year of college. Because of my interest in computers, and computer programming, I‌ decided that I‌ wanted to pursue a major in computer science. And because it is my first year as a college student, I‌ only had one computer science class. It was called Comp Sci 1050 and it was taught in the C Programming Language. It serves as a weed-out class for Mizzou Computer Science Majors. The Structure of the Class Each week, we had two 1.25 hour lectures on Tuesdays...
